💻 Digital Team Building Activities
11. Google Classroom Banner Quilt
Ready to give your digital classroom a personal touch while fostering a sense of community? The Google Classroom Banner Quilt is a creative and collaborative activity that results in a beautiful, personalized banner for your virtual space. It’s a fantastic way to welcome students to your class and visually represent the unique individuals who make up your community.
Here’s how it works:
Prep Your “Quilt Squares”: The simplest way to do this is to create a blank Google Drawing for each student. You can even use a pre-made template for a “blank digital quilt square” to give them a starting point. The theme of the quilt can be anything you choose—a “favorite things” theme, a “getting to know you” theme, or a visual representation of a shared class value.
Student Creation: Share a copy of the blank Google Drawing with each student and give them time to decorate their square. They can use the drawing tools, insert images, add text, or use Word Art to express themselves. The more creative freedom you give them, the more unique the final quilt will be!
Assemble the Quilt: Once every student has completed their square, you’ll need to put them all together. Simply download each student’s Google Drawing as an image file (PNG or JPEG) and then arrange them into a single, larger file using this Google Classroom header template. This collaborative collage will be the final “quilt.”
Display and Celebrate: Upload the completed quilt banner to your Google Classroom header. This becomes a visible symbol of your class’s unity and collaboration. You can also revisit the activity whenever a new student joins your class, ensuring they feel included and adding their unique square to the quilt!
12. Team Jeopardy
Class Jeopardy is the perfect activity. It’s a fantastic way to test knowledge, reinforce key information, and, most importantly, bring your team together in a lively game show format.
- Prep Your Game Board: The key to a great game is a well-designed board. Create several categories (e.g., “School History,” “Inside Jokes,” “Our Students,” “Random Facts”). Under each category, write five answers, each with a corresponding point value (from 100 to 500). The higher the points, the more difficult the question.
- Use a Jeopardy-Style Format: Remember, in Jeopardy, the host provides the answer, and the players must respond with the correct question. For example, under the “School History” category, a 300-point answer might be: “This is the year our school first opened its doors.” The correct response would be: “What is [the year]?”
- Harness the Power of AI: To save time and get creative with your questions, use an AI tool! Simply feed it a list of facts about your school, class, or workplace and ask it to “create 25 Jeopardy-style answers and questions based on these facts.” It can instantly turn mundane information into a fun and engaging game.

13. Digital Trading Cards
Want a fresh, modern way to help your teachers get to know each other? Digital Trading Cards is an engaging and personalized icebreaker that goes beyond simple introductions. It’s a fantastic way to learn about the people behind the professional roles, and it creates a visual resource that everyone can refer back to.
How It Works:
Prep the Template: The simplest way to do this is to use a collaborative online whiteboard tool like Figma’s FigJam. FigJam has a free, ready-made template for classroom icebreaker trading cards, so all you have to do is copy it into a new board.
Personalize the Cards: Once the board is set up, share the link with all the participants. Each person will claim a “trading card” and fill it out with their own details. The cards can be customized with a picture, their name, and fun facts like their favorite book, a superpower they wish they had, or a teaching memory they cherish. This process allows everyone to share a bit about themselves in a structured but creative way.
The “Trading” Session: Once the cards are complete, gather everyone together for a virtual meeting. Take turns sharing your cards and the fun facts you included. This gives everyone an opportunity to get to know one another on a more personal level, fostering connections that will strengthen your team throughout the school year.

14. Collaborative Storytelling

It splits a larger group into five teams, with each team responsible for writing a their own part of a collaborative story. The final product? A hilarious narrative that everyone helped create.
To get started, you’ll need a prompt. The Virtual Escape Rooms “Spin a Story Wheel” is a perfect resource for this. Simply have a designated person spin the wheel to generate a unique character, a setting, and a problem. Once you have these three key elements, share them with all the teams to kick off their creative writing adventure!
Sample instructions for each team:
- Team 1 Exposition:
- Sentence Starter: “It all began with…”
- Your task: Introduce the main character and setting. Your paragraph should set the scene and end with the introduction of the problem.
- Team 2 Rising Action:
- Sentence Starter: “The challenge was…”
- Your task: Describe the problem in more detail. This paragraph should focus on the initial attempts to solve the problem, which should ultimately fail.
- Team 3 Climax:
- Sentence Starter: “Just when all hope seemed lost…”
- Your task: Introduce a new character or a new idea that helps to move toward a solution. This paragraph should be the turning point of the story.
- Team 4 Falling Action:
- Sentence Starter: “They finally found a way to…”
- Your task: Describe the successful resolution of the problem. This paragraph should detail how the characters overcame the challenge.
- Team 5 Resolution:
- Sentence Starter: “In the end…”
- Your task: Conclude the story. Reflect on the outcome and summarize the lesson learned or the changes that occurred as a result of the adventure.
15. Puzzle Piece Connections
This simple yet powerful exercise can be a beautiful way to kick off the school year or to reinforce a sense of unity at any time. The best part? It results in a stunning, collaborative piece of art that can be displayed in your classroom as a constant reminder of your class’s shared identity.
Distribute one puzzle piece to each member of the group. Their task is to decorate their piece with symbols, words, or drawings that represent them as an individual. Encourage them to think about their unique hobbies, passions, family, and cultural background. This is a chance for students to share what makes them special.
Once all the pieces are decorated, it’s time to bring them together. In a designated space, have the students work together to assemble all the individual pieces into a single, cohesive mural. As they connect their pieces, they will physically see how their unique selves fit together to form a beautiful whole.

16. Build a Classroom Mascot
Divide and Conquer: Break your students into small teams. The goal here is to give each group a chance to develop their own ideas, so keep the teams small enough to allow everyone to have a voice.
The Brainstorm: Challenge each team to brainstorm ideas for a classroom mascot. Encourage them to think about what makes their class special. Is it a focus on kindness? A love of reading? A shared interest in science? The mascot should reflect these unique qualities. They should come up with a name, a backstory, and a visual design.
The Build: Provide each team with a variety of craft supplies, such as construction paper, yarn, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, glue, and markers. Give them a set amount of time to physically build their mascot based on their design. This is where teamwork truly shines—students will need to delegate tasks and collaborate to bring their vision to life.
The Presentation and Vote: Once the mascots are complete, have each team present their creation to the rest of the class. They should explain the mascot’s name, its story, and why they think it’s a perfect fit for the classroom. Afterward, hold a class vote to choose the official classroom mascot.
